When I found myself
re-acting to situations rather than productively
acting in them, I would work the
Five Steps retroactively. In other words, working the 5 steps on a problem that had already past helped me to understand my thought process for the original problem AND gain ideas for how I actually do want to handle a similar situation in the future. For me, it wasn't even usually about the action (in this case, writing on the machine) but rather the emotions and thoughts that went into the action that I had to address.

can make situations like this a thing of the past. Working the 5 steps and then
Untwisting any thoughts or emotions that I find. You can do this, but you have to get to work. Why not start with the 5 steps?
